Portion of the holograph manuscript of his work on Polynesia. Includes portions of part I, chapter 15 and part II, chapter 1. In the London (Chatto and Windus) edition of 1900, this text is on pp. 132-145. A leather bookplate pasted on the inside of the front board indicates this manuscript is from the library of Jerome Kern.

Composer and songwriter Jerome Kern (1885-1945) is best remembered for his Broadway and film work including the lovely melodies from Showboat, "Old Man River," "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man," and "Bill," as well as standards such as "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" and "The Way You Look Tonight". The collection consists primarily of show music, including some holograph sketches. Robert Lewis (later changed to "Louis") Balfour Stevenson was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on November 13, 1850. He attended the University of Edinburgh intending to become a civil engineer like his father, but ill health curtailed his studies and prompted him to travel to warmer climates.
